This list is in no way meant to be a complete list of all rules for Preston School District Transportation or the state of Idaho. It is only intended to give you some suggestions and guidelines that will help ensure the safety of your children while they are traveling to and from school.
In the morning:
Arrive at the bus stop 5 minutes before the bus is expected to arrive.
Remain on the curb, sidewalk, or in the driveway until the bus has not only come to a complete stop but the door has opened.
If you are on the opposite side of the road as the bus approaches remain there until the bus has stopped, the stop arm is out, and the driver has waved you across the road with a big sweeping motion with their arm.
When crossing the road remain at least 12 feet in front of the bus and then walk down to the door.
On the bus:
Remain seated facing the front of the bus. This is the best way for the compartmentalization of the seat design to be effective. It also keeps you out of the aisle so you aren’t in the way of others entering and exiting the bus.
Do not behave in such a way that the driver is distracted. They need to watch the road and watch the traffic.
Treat others with respect so that all may enjoy the ride.
Remain seated until the bus has come to a complete stop and the door has opened.
Listen to and follow any instructions from the driver.
After School:
Remain seated until the bus has come to a complete stop and the door has opened.
After exiting the bus continue away from the bus to a distance of at least 10 feet.
If you will be crossing the road walk 12 feet ahead and wait on the curb or side of the road until the driver waves you across with a big sweeping motion of their arm.
Do not ever cross the road behind the bus, the driver can’t see you there.
Once you have gotten off the bus do not approach the side of the bus for any reason, exit and move away from the bus.
